Texans signing OT Cam Robinson to one-year deal

The Texans have found their replacement at left tackle.

Veteran Cam Robinson is signing a one-year deal with Houston, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.

Houston's struggles up front in 2024 pushed the offensive line to the top of the priorities list entering 2025, but instead of aggressively pursuing options in free agency, the Texans shipped out cornerstone left tackle Laremy Tunsil to Washington for a package of picks and sent underwhelming guard Kenyon Green packing in a deal with Philadelphia. Their first two moves were subtractions, not additions.

In the last two days, however, they've brought in two veterans, signing guard Laken Tomlinson on Tuesday and adding Robinson Wednesday. The latter is the most important, providing quarterback C.J. Stroud with a blindside shield to replace Tunsil with the hopes this remodeled group will be able to protect Stroud better than they did in the arduous 2024 season.

Robinson spent 2024 with two teams, beginning in Jacksonville before the Vikings acquired him via in-season trade to take the place of their injured starter Christian Darrisaw. The challenge was not for the faint of heart: Step into a new offense and man the most important position of blindside protector for Sam Darnold.

Robinson succeeded, performing well enough to avoid becoming a topic of conversation. With Robinson in the fold, the Vikings didn't miss a beat, finishing sixth in passing yards per game and 12th in total yards.

A second-round pick of the Jaguars in 2017, Robinson has proven himself as a serviceable tackle in his NFL career and played well enough to force Jacksonville to franchise tag him twice in 2021 and 2022. It wasn't until they fell into the lowest tier of the NFL in 2024 that they decided to move on from him and sent him to a place with greater expectation.

Robinson met those expectations, earning a place inside the top 30 of Gregg Rosenthal's Top 101 Free Agents list. He'll encounter the same pressure in Houston.
