South end up against the east wall.
That's where Pat Tillman's locker stood. And if it weren't for Jim Omohundro, it might not be there today.
The Arizona Cardinals' locker rooms, which hadn't been upgraded since 1990, were undergoing renovations, when Omohundro, the team's broadcast and new media manager, remembered there was one locker that needed to be salvaged.
It's been nearly 11 years since former Cardinals safety and Army Ranger Pat Tillman died in Afghanistan. In 2006, Omohundro got the idea to preserve Tillman's locker. Whenever a new player was given the space, he would school them on Tillman's story.
According to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, Omohundro had the inclination that a place like the Pro Football Hall of Fame would want the locker.
However, Omohundro was away from the Tempe practice facility when construction began shortly after the Super Bowl to update the facilities. Omohundro got back just in time to prevent a saw from cutting Tillman's locker down.
"I was like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can we carefully cut this one out and set it aside?'" Omohundro told the AZCardinals.com. "I explained it was Pat Tillman's locker."
Because of Omohundro, no one will ever forget Tillman's legacy now.
