Kyler Murray has a new backup.
The Cardinals are expected to sign quarterback Jacoby Brissett, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, giving Arizona more experience behind Murray at the position.
Brissett, 32, started five games for the Patriots last season, throwing for 826 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 59.0% completions before giving way to Drake Maye. In 87 career games (53 starts) with the Patriots, Colts, Dolphins, Browns and Commanders, Brissett has thrown for 11,400 yards, 53 TDs and 24 INTs, also rushing for 977 yards and 15 more scores.
Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing was Brissett’s QB coach with the Browns in 2022 when Brissett started 11 games in Cleveland.
Murray started all 17 games last season, but he was limited to eight in 2023 after suffering a torn ACL late in the 2022 season. Without Murray, the Cardinals struggled, going 1-8 with Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune starting in his place.
