CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have placed backup safety Sherrod Martin on injured reserve after he injured the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the Panther's 27-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
He becomes the 12th Carolina player to be placed on injured reserve this season.
Martin, a four-year veteran, was a two-year starter for the Panthers before losing his starting job to free agent pickup Haruki Nakamura in training camp. Martin played in 12 games in a reserve role and finished the season with 23 tackles and one forced fumble.
Coach Ron Rivera says the Panthers have not yet made a corresponding roster move to replace Martin.
