SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers have signed defensive tackle Alfonso Boone to help fill the void left when Jamal Williams was lost for the season with a triceps injury.
Boone spent the last two seasons with the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs. He was released in the final roster cutdown.
Boone also played for the Bears from 2000 to 2006 and appeared in the Super Bowl following the 2006 season. While with the Bears, he played for defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, who holds the same job with San Diego.
The Chargers released defensive end Andre Coleman to make room on the roster.
Williams, noted for his run-stuffing prowess, was hurt in the opener against Oakland and was put on injured reserve on Saturday.
