Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen has been suspended without pay for the team’s first two games of 2007 for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy.
Allen’s suspension begins on Saturday, September 1. He is eligible to return to the Chiefs’ active roster on Monday, September 17 following the team’s September 16 game against the Chicago Bears.
“Jared Allen is eligible to participate in all preseason team-meetings, practices, and games during training camp,” Chiefs President Carl Peterson said. “Jared is also eligible to participate in all team meetings and have use of team facilities during his two week regular season suspension. Jared is not, however, permitted to participate in team practices but he can be on-site during his suspension.
“We are hopeful that Jared will take advantage of his opportunity to be with his teammates, attend the team and defensive line meetings, study his opponents and use our weight room facilities (plus coaches) to ensure that he is ready to play in our home opener against Minnesota.”
