Unless you ignore commercials that feature Eminem stoically driving through urban streets, you already know the automobile industry is a big deal in Detroit.
So are the Lions, which is why it made sense General Motors sought to display the Lions' logo on top of downtown's Renaissance Center during Monday night's game against the Bears.
"We think that night's going to be pretty exciting in town, so we thought it would be a great idea to put the Lions' logo up there," GM spokesman Pat Morrissey said of the LED sign at the top of the RenCen's central tower, according to the Detroit Free Press.
"Unfortunately we called over to Ford Field and we were not given permission to use the logo."
Oh right ... one small problem. The Lions are partnered with Ford, and the Renaissance Center just so happens to be the world headquarters of GM, Ford's biggest rival in town.
In response to the conflict, Ford released a statement so polished it shined: "We have a tremendous and exclusive relationship with Ford Motor Company that precludes our logo being used by any other automotive manufacturer in any manner."
