Clemson's Tajh Boyd laughingly proclaims himself the best QB

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd boldly proclaimed himself as the nation's best quarterback during a radio interview on Wednesday.

Well, not really.

Boyd seemed to enjoy the give-and-take with the host Dan Patrick in their roughly nine-minute segment. Late in the interview, the discussion turned to the best quarterback in the nation. When asked "The best quarterback is who?" by Patrick, Boyd praised Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, saying, "Teddy has the best feel for the game."

After some banter with the host, Boyd laughed, then said, "I think I'm one of the best quarterbacks in the country."

Then, after some good-natured prodding from Patrick, Boyd laughed and said, "I don't think there's anybody better than me."

Earlier in the interview, Boyd admitted that he seriously considered entering the NFL draft following last season.

"I had told myself I was leaving after the LSU game [in the Chick-fil-A Bowl]," he said.

But he said he put more thought into it and decided to stay for his senior season. Boyd said the information he received from the NFL Draft Advisory Board was that he would be a second- or third-round pick, but he also said that had he left early, "I believe I would've been a first-round pick."

Boyd threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns in Clemson's season-opening win over Georgia. That gives him 76 career TD passes, which is tied for third in ACC history with former NC State quarterback Russell Wilson. Former NC State star Philip Rivers leads with 95, and Boyd could surpass former Florida State star Chris Weinke's 79 TD passes and move into second this week against overmatched FCS opponent South Carolina State.
