Colin Kaepernick passes RGIII as top-selling NFL jersey

Colin Kaepernick might publicly endorse non-San Francisco 49ers merchandise, but his own jersey is the NFL's hottest seller of the moment.

Kaepernick's No. 7 jersey was the top mover on NFLShop.com from April 1 through June 30, an NFL spokeswoman told CNBC.com. Kaepernick is one of seven quarterbacks in the top 10 in sales for 2013. Tim Tebow fans still trying to find a charity to take their No. 15 New York Jets jersey must be taking a wait-and-see approach with his New England Patriots career. He's not on the list.

The NFL's new-school youth movement at quarterback dominated the top of the list. Kaepernick's rise ends a year of jersey sales dominance for Robert Griffin III, whose No. 10 Washington Redskins jersey was the top seller from March 31, 2012 to April 1, 2013. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson placed second and RGIII third.

The sales of Kaepernick jerseys have been a steady climb since the 25-year-old quarterback Wally PippedAlex Smith out of a job in San Francisco and took the 49ers all the way to Super Bowl XLVII.

Joe Flacco, the quarterback who beat Kaepernick's 49ers in the Super Bowl and now is the NFL's highest-paid player, is buried at No. 25 on the list. In its story, CNBC describes Flacco as "the talented but dull QB."
