Asked about his plans for the 2025 NFL Draft, University of Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter left little doubt of his intentions for next season.
“That’s definitely for sure,” Hunter said on a conference call with media members on Thursday.
Hunter has yet to formally declare for next spring’s draft. The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2025 draft will be in January, depending on when players’ seasons end, according to new draft procedures adopted by the NFL.
A unique talent, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Hunter figures to be one of the more fascinating prospects in recent memory whenever he does enter the NFL Draft officially. He has played nearly 1,200 snaps for the Buffaloes this season -- split almost evenly between wide receiver and cornerback, as well as on special teams.
Hunter also said on the call that he intends to play both offense and defense in the NFL. Two-way players are increasingly hard to find in this era, but Hunter might be enough of a unicorn to get that chance at the next level. One of the last players to see regular time at both receiver and cornerback was Deion Sanders, Hunter’s head coach at Colorado.
Hunter is considered the Heisman Trophy favorite this season. As a wide receiver, he has caught 74 passes for 911 yards and nine touchdowns this season, adding a rushing TD last week against Utah. On defense, Hunter has 24 tackles (one for loss), three interceptions, eight passes defended and a forced fumble. He started his career at Jackson State, playing both ways there also before following Sanders to Colorado.
