The Colts said in a statement Wednesday that coach Jim Caldwell wanted to make a change. Indianapolis ranked last in the NFL in kickoff-return average (18.6 yards) and punt-return average (3.4).
Rychleski is the second Indianapolis assistant to lose his job. Defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was fired in late November and replaced by linebackers coach Mike Murphy.
Coyer and Rychleski were both hired by Caldwell.
The move comes two days after team owner Jim Irsay fired vice chairman Bill Polian and general manager Chris Polian. The Colts went 2-14 this season.
The Colts also signed tackle Mike Tepper, defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu and offensive guard Matt Murphy to reserve-future contracts Wednesday.
