Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor missed the past two games due to an ankle sprain but hopes to hit the practice field this week.
On Tuesday, Taylor joined NFL Network’s The Insiders and said he’s trending in the right direction.
“I’m definitely feeling better this week,” he said during a community event at Dairy Queen. “Ankles are nothing new to me. I’ve been dealing with them for quite a bit. I’m doing everything in my power to be back out there again this week. You know, the high ankles are always tricky, especially when you’re playing a high-contact sport like this. But I’m sure I’m up for the challenge. Me and the training staff in Indianapolis, we’re going to do everything that we can to be back out there this week and in the coming weeks going forward.”
Taylor hasn’t practiced since suffering the ankle injury in Week 4.
The Colts running game has missed the star running back. In four games, he’s generated 349 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor’s 87.3 rush YPG and 4.8 yards per carry in 2024 are both his best in a season since 2021, when he led the NFL with 1,811 rush yards and 18 rush TD (106.5 YPG, 5.5 YPC).
In the four games Taylor played this season, Indy surpassed the 100-yard mark in each. In the two he’s missed, they’ve fallen below that plateau.
Asked point-blank if he should be in fantasy football lineups this weekend, Taylor wouldn’t commit.
“I don’t want you to put me in, and now I’m out, but as long as you have a good swap, then you’re perfect,” he said, chuckling.
At the very least, he’s trending in the right direction.
With Anthony Richardson expected to return -- barring a setback -- the Colts could be getting healthy for a pivotal stretch, starting with Sunday’s home game against Miami.
