With Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team signed quarterback Josh Johnson and waived cornerback Shaun Prater on Friday. Johnson is on his sixth NFL team, and his third one in the last six weeks.
The Colts already had two other quarterbacks backing up Luck on the roster -- Matt Hasselbeck and Alex Tanney -- so the move is a bit of surprise. Luck didn't throw any passes in the portion of practice open to the media Friday as backup Matt Hasselbeck and Alex Tanney took reps with the offense.
The move to sign Johnson underscores the growing belief that Luck could miss Sunday's game because of a shoulder injury. Still, the signing might say more about Tanney than it does about Luck's health. Perhaps the Colts aren't comfortable with the idea of Tanney as the team's backup, and would prefer a player like Johnson, who has NFL starting experience.
