Cooper Kupp suffers ankle injury in Rams' loss to Cardinals, leaves locker room in walking boot

The Rams lost their second game and their second star wideout in as many weeks on Sunday.

Wide receiver Cooper Kupp sustained an ankle injury during the second quarter of a 41-10 blowout loss to the Cardinals, after which he was deemed doubtful to return and missed the remainder of the contest.

Head coach Sean McVay did not have an update on his wide receiver following the game, but Kupp did leave the locker room wearing a walking boot on his left leg, per The Athletic's Jordan Rodrigue.

Kupp had four catches for 37 yards at the time of his departure, when the game was already getting out of reach at 24-3.

Los Angeles scored its lone touchdown at the end of the third quarter and allowed Arizona 17 second-half points to lose in stunning fashion.

While the defeat dropped L.A to 0-2, more concerning yet is the injuries piling up for the Rams.

Puka Nacua, who broke out as a rookie in 2023, sprained his PCL in the team's season opener and could be out until Week 9, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning.

While the severity of Kupp's injury is still unknown, it'll be a massive blow to the Rams' chances to rebound should he miss any extended time.

Matthew Stafford is already working behind a patchwork offensive line -- Joe Noteboom and Steve Avila went on injured reserve on Wednesday along with Nacua -- and would need to make do without his top two pass catchers.

The Rams have a huge division game coming up next, as they host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3.

McVay, for what it's worth, believe his players will rise to the occasion.

“I know they continue to fight," McVay said when asked about the locker room dealing with mounting injuries. "We’ve got a lot of mentally tough people in that room. These are these moments where you get tested. I know when I look back on moments of growth for me, they never occurred in good times. They only occurred in moments like this. This is one of those moments that you got that pit in your gut and you got a choice, hey, you want to attack it or you want to fold? And I’m betting on a lot of the guys that they’re gonna raise their head high.”
