Dallas Cowboys players began holding secret workouts this month, but not much is known about who has been participating or what kind of drills are being conducted.
Quarterback Tony Romo shed some light on the situation Monday, telling *The Dallas Morning News* that 45 players showed up for the workout sessions last week.
"It's been great to see it continue to progress," Romo said.
Romo said after last season that he would organize team workouts if a lockout prevented players from participating in organized team activities and minicamps. That's exactly what happened after the lockout started March 12.
"There is so much that goes into that work," Cowboys tight end Jason Witten said. "He's done a good job."
Romo said approximately 40 players were present at the first practice. Other established Cowboys veterans - including Witten, offensive tackle Marc Colombo and linebackers Bradie James, Keith Brooking and DeMarcus Ware -- have taken some responsibility for planning the sessions.
The Cowboys selected eight players in the draft last month, but none of them have been to the practice sessions. The players who have attended believe the group practices can help them get on a jump on improving after a 6-10 season.
"We go in and go work," Witten said, "and we get better."
