Cris Carter does 180 on Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson

Cris Carter once said something ludicrous about Calvin Johnson.

You remember that, right? Carter, the Minnesota Vikings great-turned-ESPN analyst, said last August that Johnson was an elite wide receiver only in "Madden" video games.

It was silly at the time, and it got downright goofy when Megatron went off in 2011, putting up 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Detroit Lions.

Hanzus: Johnson vs. Johnson

Andre Johnson has long been considered the top WR in the NFL, but Dan Hanzus writes Calvin Johnson has surpassed him at the top. **More ...**

It seems even Carter was able to grasp the irony that Johnson managed to play like a video-game character in real life. And so it was that the 180 became complete Tuesday, when Carter took to ESPN to proclaim Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson as the game's best duo.

"When you have a young quarterback, under the age of 25, coming off a 5,000-yard season, and you have the most dangerous weapon in the National Football League in Calvin Johnson, that's why, this duo, to me, is the absolute best," Carter said, via ProFootballTalk.com. "Franchise quarterback with the No. 1 big-play wide receiver in the NFL."

We give Carter credit for knowing when to jump off a sinking ship. Of course, this ship has been at the bottom of Lake Erie for some time.
