Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler had successful surgery Wednesday on his broken right thumb and is out indefinitely, with the Bears still hoping he can return before the regular season ends in six weeks.
Cutler suffered the injury Sunday against the San Diego Chargers while trying to make a tackle on an interception.
Late Wednesday, Cutler tweeted: "Surgery went great. Randy Viola is the best," referring to one of the doctors at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo.
"Jay Cutler had successful surgery earlier today," Bears coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday, according to the Rockford Register Star. "It’s the same timeline that we talked about earlier in the week, and we don’t know any more details right now, but we’ll be able to get that to you a little bit later on."
