The Cowboys are in discussions to trade cornerback Mike Jenkins, a source with knowledge of the team's plans said Friday.
NFL Network's Albert Breer reported, based on conversations with multiple team executives, that Jenkins' market value could be around a fourth-round draft pick.
Jenkins, who's in the final year of his contract, is looking for a long-term deal in a secondary that already includes high-priced players such as Brandon Carr (five years, $50 million) and Orlando Scandrick (five-year extension for $27 million). With the addition of Claiborne as the No. 6 overall pick, Jenkins is expendable.
Vice president of player personnel Stephen Jones said Thursday night the team would like to keep Jenkins, but that his future is "something we'll have to decide." Trying to gain back a draft pick after losing a second-round pick in the Claiborne trade, it sounds like they've decided.
