LANDOVER, Md. -- Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis underwent an appendectomy and missed Sunday night's game against the Washington Redskins.
DeCamillis had surgery at a Virginia hospital. The team said offensive assistant Wes Phillips, son of head coach Wade Phillips, would handle the special teams units.
DeCamillis broke two vertebrae in his neck when the Cowboys' indoor practice facility collapsed in May, but he had not missed a game until Sunday.
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was active for the Redskins despite being sent home for showing up late for team meetings on Christmas Day and twice criticizing the coaching staff in the last week. Receiver Devin Thomas sat out with a sprained ankle.
