In his Week 12 officiating review video for the media, NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino continued to emphasize the need for consistency among referees in correctly calling completed pass receptions.
He pointed specifically at the reception by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallacelast Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
"The ball comes loose when he hits the ground," Blandino said. "This is an incomplete pass. We didn't rule it this way, and again, we've got to work and strive to be more consistent with our game officials to make sure they understand this."
He also explained:
- An incomplete pass during the Dallas Cowboys-New York Giants game.
- As an example, a completed pass during a recent Indianapolis Colts-Washington Redskins game.
- Downing of a punt by a player coming back into the field from the end zone during the Jacksonville Jaguars-Houston Texans game.
- Offensive pass interference on pick routes during the Denver Broncos-New England Patriots game.
- Instant replay used for a field goal during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Detroit Lions game.
