The Houston Texans didn't waste any time installing wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as a starter in his first practice. Hopkins didn't waste any time coming to terms on his rookie contract.
Draft signings
The New Orleans Saints' Kenny Vaccaro and Detroit Lions' Ziggy Ansah were the first of the 2013 NFL Draft first-round selections to sign. Follow all the moves right here. **More ...**
Hopkins signed his rookie contract with the Texans on Monday, the team announced. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, it's a four-year deal worth 7.62 million. Hopkins will get a signing bonus of $3.92 million, with the first three years of his deal guaranteed. The No. 27 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hopkins was an offseason standout on a team that badly needs wide receiver help.
Hopkins is the 18th player from the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft to come to terms on his rookie contract. He's the first player selected between No. 22 and No. 29 to agree to a deal, which might ease that logjam.
In a year without many highly drafted "skill-position" rookies, Hopkins has a chance to make a huge impact for an annual playoff team. It wouldn't surprise us if he's in the mix for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
