The Denver Broncos' victory softened his frustration, but Demaryius Thomas knows he can't continue to play the way he did Sunday night.
The Pro Bowl receiver caught just one of 13 targets in a win over the New England Patriots. He was charged with three drops, per Pro Football Focus, but there were several others that big-time receivers should come down with.
"I feel like I let my teammates down besides that one big play," Thomas said, via The Denver Post. "There were passes that I dropped that I should have caught. If you kind of get to that point where you're always thinking about it, it kind of makes it worse."
While Thomas' one catch was huge, his drops and an inability (or lack of effort) to come back to the ball on several occasions stymied the Broncos' offense.
It appeared that the weather played a part in giving Thomas the yips.
"Some of the elements that was going on in the game," Thomas said. "I was worried about not falling and slipping. (I was) worried about catching the ball when it snows. That's the main thing, just getting it out of my head. I'm sure I can play better."
Perhaps we can attribute Sunday's snowy climate for part of DT's eight-percent catch rate. The bigger issue is that the two games with Brock Osweiler under center have been two of the receiver's worst this season.
Thomas averaged 7.6 receptions and 90.7 yards per game with Peyton Manning this season. Despite seeing just one fewer target per game with Osweiler at quarterback, Thomas is averaging just two receptions and 47.5 yards per game.
Yes, the sample size is too small to freak out yet, but players with Thomas' talent usually help, not hinder, a young quarterback, which hasn't been the case through two games for the Broncos.
