Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen couldn't hide his exasperation. He thought quarterback Matt Flynn was the decisive factor in the team losing a winnable game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
"Obviously, I don't think he saw the field very good today," Allen said.
Later in the press conference, Allen was asked if he'd consider playing undrafted rookie Matt McGloin over Flynn if starter Terrelle Pryor doesn't get healthy.
"I don't know. We'll see. It's 15 minutes after the game. Listen, Matt didn't play well and we have to move on. We have to get better from that, so hopefully we’ll be ready to go for San Diego," Allen said.
That's a change of pace from coaches who usually want to "watch the film." Flynn was booed all day by fans who wanted Pryor on the field. (Pryor was out with a concussion. Allen said the team used "extreme caution" in resting Pryor.)
Flynn certainly held the ball too long, although it's not like he was playing with a stacked deck. The offensive line struggled, and the Raiders lost running back Darren McFadden and fullback Marcel Reece to injuries.
Allen might be showing some frustration with his front office's acquisition of Flynn, who was supposed to be the team's starter. The Raiders gave up a draft pick to acquire Flynn and paid him more than $6 million, but it wouldn't be a surprise if this is the last we see of Flynn as a starter in Oakland.
