DeSean Jackson is multi-hyphenate for the 21st century. He is a wide receiver and a punt returner for the Philadelphia Eagles. He's a quarterback competition predictor and a fascinating documentary subject. His latest project: Rapper.
Jackson recently released a single featuring Snoop Dogg (now known as Snoop Lion) called "Diamonds on My Neck." We can't embed the video because of a few slightly naughty lines from Snoop, but here are a few vital takeaways from the session:
- It's Jackson's song, but he raps for just 21 seconds during a video that lasts 3 minutes and 25 seconds. He needs to work on that ratio if he wants to take the next step as a performer.
- Sample line from Jackson: "That ice cold receiver/got them money bags like I'm freezing."
- Compared to other athletes turned rappers, Jackson holds his own. I could see him as a potential replacement player who comes off the bench if any one of the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony guys came down with a cold.
- Snoop and Jackson actually don't appear in the same scene together, but the production value of the Las Vegas-based video is rather high. Jackson must have spent some serious money to get Snoop on board and film.
- The early reviews have not been kind.
