Count Dimitri Patterson among the deep group of cornerbacks slated to hit free agency Tuesday.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the 30-year-old veteran will be released by the Miami Dolphins, per a source who has spoken to the player. The Dolphins later made it official.
After battling a recurring groin injury sustained in a Week 1 win over his previous team, the Cleveland Browns, Patterson was placed on the Dolphins' injured reserve in December. Despite playing in just six games with four starts last season, Patterson displayed his sticky fingers with four interceptions and six passes defensed to go along with 19 tackles and one sack.
Last month, Around The League's Chris Wesseling listed Patterson -- who was set to make $5.3 million in 2014 -- as a potential salary-cap casualty. Unfortunately for Patterson, that prognostication has come to fruition for the solid but oft-injured cover man.
