Free-agent safety Marvin White, who most recently played for the Cincinnati Bengals, was arrested Thursday in Opelousas, La., following an alleged dispute at a child-care center, the *Daily World* reported Saturday.
"Marvin White went to a local child-care center to pay a bill for his child and he began to be verbally abusive to the management when the manager assumed he was (the) boyfriend of the child's mother," St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told the World. "They asked him to leave. He then made threats in front of the children and other adults there toward the management and made comments to his son's grandmother, who was there to pick up the child."
White, 27, was arrested at his St. Landry Parish home and charged with one count of simple assault and one count of disturbing the peace by loud and abusive language, the World reported, citing the jail's daily arrest report. He posted his $1,250 bond about four hours later.
White's agent, Kevin Conner, released a statement on the player's behalf to ProFootballTalk.com, saying "I would like to sincerely apologize for the recent unfortunate situation. I have never been arrested during my career in the NFL. I didn't make any threats while I was present at my children's daycare. I have been there on numerous occasions and several autographed photos of myself with my kids are present. In addition, I have been invited by management to engage kids and parents through positive interaction and school activities.
"I am looking forward to putting this situation behind me."
The arrest comes just weeks after White hosted his second annual football and cheer camp. Bengals guard Nate Livings, defensive tackle Domata Peko, defensive back Korey Lindsey and former Bengals running back James Johnson were among the participants.
In four seasons, White has registered 142 tackles and one interception in two stints with the Bengals, Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.
