The Miami Dolphins face a tough decision whether to place Mike Pouncey on the physically unable to perform list after the center underwent hip surgery earlier this offseason.
Pouncey hopes to avoid sitting out those mandatory six games.
"We had a couple discussions about it," he said of the PUP possibility, per The Miami Herald. "I'm just letting them make the decision. I hope I'm not on PUP, but it's not up to me. I want to play."
As NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport noted Thursday, the Dolphins have an interesting call to make given that the expected date of Pouncey's return is Week 6. If they place Pouncey on the PUP list he wouldn't be eligible until Week 7. However, not placing him on the list means they'd have to carry an injured player on the active roster for five weeks or more.
Pouncey believes there is "no question" that it's realistic he could play in the first six games of the season.
"I'm going to keep doing my rehab and letting it get stronger each week and just waiting for the coaches to tell me when to play," he said.
