Shawntae Spencer's time with the San Francisco 49ers appears to be nearing an end.
The team is in the process of granting the veteran cornerback permission to seek a trade, sources told to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
Spencer, 30, has spent all eight of his NFL seasons in San Francisco, but he fell to fifth on the depth chart this past season and didn't suit up for the 49ers' two playoff games.
Spencer is due to be paid $3.3 million in 2012.
Spencer, a second-round draft pick in 2004, suffered hamstring injuries and a hyperextended toe in 2011.
