Duke starting QB Anthony Boone lost to a broken collarbone

Duke starting quarterback Anthony Boone suffered a broken collarbone in Saturday's 28-14 win over Memphis and is out indefinitely, coach David Cutcliffe announced Sunday.

Things we learned

From Aaron Murray finally winning a big game to a statement win for "The U," here are the things we learned from the second weekend of college football play. **More ...**

The junior Boone has started three times in his career, including both of the Blue Devils' games this season.

Junior Brandon Connette will be the new starter. Connette is a better runner than Boone, but is an inconsistent passer. This week's game against Georgia Tech will be Connette's second career start; he started as a true freshman against Miami in 2010. He redshirted in 2011 and played extensively as a reserve quarterback and wide receiver last fall, when he led Duke in rushing touchdowns with eight.

The new backup quarterback will be true freshman Parker Boehme. He enrolled early but missed most of spring practice while recovering from December toe surgery. Duke had hoped to redshirt him this season.

Duke has been more effective than usual running the ball, and with Connette at the controls, the rushing attack will have to come through on a consistent basis.
