Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reported Friday that Edwards and the Carolina Panthers agreed to a contract after the defensive tackle spent Thursday and Friday visiting the Miami Dolphins.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but Edwards previously turned down a one-year, $1.5 million contract from the Panthers at the outset of free agency.
The 32-year-old, three-technique tackle was a bright spot last season in Carolina's eternally struggling inside front. Edwards recorded six sacks in 13 starts, the second most by an interior lineman in franchise history.
Edwards would have played a supporting role in Miami, but his starting job in Carolina is safe. It's a smart move by the Panthers, who need all the defensive line help they can get.
