Eagles' interest in Peyton Manning doesn't bother Vick

NEW YORK – Andy Reid's tire-kicking on Peyton Manning drew headlines.

But at least publicly, it didn't draw the ire of Reid's incumbent quarterback.

Mike Vick affirmed Tuesday at the NFL-Nike uniform launch that he's secure in his place atop the Philadelphia Eagles' depth chart and that everything's fine between he and the organization that took him in at his lowest point and last year rewarded him for two years of progress with a blockbuster contract.

"I really don't care," Vick said, addressing the Manning report. "Peyton's in Denver. That's where he's going to be. But one thing I know, I know I'm one of the best quarterbacks in this league. That's what it is, that's the way I feel, and nothing will ever change that in my mindset."

Vick did acknowledge that he talked to Reid soon after the Eagles looked into Manning and that the air is clear between quarterback and coach.

"We talked about it," Vick said. "He just asked me if I'd heard about it, and I told him no, because I hadn't at the time. I told him, 'Coach, it don't matter. I don't care. I'm one of the best in the league.' That's where I stand. I know that. We all know that, and that's just what it is."

Vick also said he hasn't been frustrated with the questions that have arisen as a result of the situation.

"The only thing I could think when I get questions like that is, I know where I stand, I know I'm one of the best in this league, and I know it'd be real hard to take my position for anybody in this league," he explained. "I don't care if you're coming out of college or started already. I'm one of the best."

Vick will turn 32 before training camp begins. And after the disappointing campaign the Eagles endured in 2011, Vick emphasized his focus is singular now.

"When you're 25 or 26, you're young and you feel like you've got a lot of time to do it," he said. "When you're 31, 32, 33, and you're in the right situation, you push for it to happen. So you work a little harder, spend more so you put everything into it and get everything out of it. Right now, I'm in a more mature state, a more relaxed state, and understand what needs to be done to win a championship."
