Quarterback Vince Young will make his second straight start for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday against the New England Patriots, according to a team source.
Starter Michael Vick sat out his third straight practice Friday as he continues to recover from broken ribs and has been ruled out by the Eagles, according to the source. Vick isn't ready to return in a starter's capacity, the source said, meaning that he could physically play but the team is being cautious with the injury to ensure he will be at full strength in December.
Officially, Vick was questionable on the team's Friday injury report, and one league source said he’d be “shocked” if the quarterback played. But Vick is improving and is a good bet to start the team's Thursday night game in Seattle on Dec. 1.
Young led the Eagles to a 17-10 victory over the New York Giants this past Sunday in his first start in almost a year, completing 23 of 36 passes for 258 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Reid said Friday that Young had taken all of the reps with the first-team offense this week.
Young will not have the services of wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who will not play because of his injured hamstring, a league source told NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is listed as probable and expected to play after taking part in limited portions of practices on Thursday and Friday.
The source also told Dales that Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is "going to try to play" despite not practicing Friday because of a hyperextended left knee he suffered during Thursday's practice. Asomugha, who was listed as questionable, will be a game-time decision.
Asante Samuel will start at one cornerback spot Sunday. If Asomugha can't play, the other healthy cornerbacks on the roster are veteran Joselio Hanson, who has started 18 games for the 49ers and Eagles since 2003; Brandon Hughes, originally a fifth-round pick of the Chargers in 2009; and rookie third-round pick Curtis Marsh.
