The Detroit Lions claimed ex-Bears safety Chris Harris off waivers on Friday, according to league sources.
The move was confirmed on Twitter by Harris' agent Albert Elias.
"Chris Harris claimed by the Detroit Lions! Congrats Chris!" Elias wrote.
Harris was released by the Bears on Thursday, a move that coach Lovie Smith said had been brewing for a couple of weeks. Harris has struggled on the field this season and has battled a nagging hamstring injury that sidelined him for three games earlier this year. He asked to be traded from the Bears after he was inactive against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 16 and then was released following the Bears' win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Lionsvisit the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
