Soooo about my Terrelle Pryor take last week ... my bad.
I wrote, "I want no part of Terrelle Pryor playing with a third-string rookie quarterback. Pryor is a great athlete but also rocks an ugly 35 percent catch rate this year (30 percent for his career)."
Pryor went on to look like the second coming of Kordell Stewart in his "Slash" prime: racking up 144 receiving yards, 21 rushing yards (and a touchdown) and had another 35 passing yards. It all tallied up to nearly 24 fantasy points in standard scoring leagues.
Pryor was still relatively inefficient with his targets (eight catches on 14 targets) but given his athleticism, versatility and projected share of the offense, the converted quarterback is a potential fantasy game breaker.
I missed on him badly, don't have him in any of my own rosters (but wish I did), apologize to all of you profusely for my poor fantasy advice, am awarded no points and may god have mercy on my soul.
More news and notes ...
NEWS: The Bills placed Sammy Watkins on injured reserve and claimed receiver Justin Hunter off waivers.
- Fantasy spin: Watkins had been battling pain in his foot all season and had missed the last two Bills' contests so the news is not a total surprise but it hurts nonetheless. Watkins could theoretically come back in eight weeks but for fantasy purposes it probably doesn't matter. Even if the talented but injury-prone receiver were to come back, the fantasy playoffs would be in full swing and it would be awfully hard to trust him.
Tyrod Taylor has been a different quarterback with and without Watkins and should be treated as a mid-tier streamer moving forward.
- Bottom line: Watkins should be dropped in most leagues minus dynasty and maybe in leagues with a large number of bench spots.
NEWS: Josh Gordon announced that he checked himself back into rehab and the team is reportedly set to cut ties.
- Fantasy spin: Here's to hoping Gordon gets right and leads a wonderful, positive life outside of football. He has shown himself to be a man of varied interests and hopefully he doesn't need football to define him. But looking at it with a harsh light of pro sports, it appears extremely unlikely that Gordon will play again in the NFL.
- Bottom line: Gordon is a drop obviously from a fantasy perspective and it opens the door to Pryor being a strong season-long play moving forward.
NEWS: Jamaal Charles practiced this week and is expected to play despite his questionable tag, per multiple reports. Charcandrick West has been ruled out.
- Fantasy spin: The Chiefs are on the road at Pittsburgh in what could be a pass-happy game for both sides. Charles has been amazingly effective with limited touches so even if Andy Reid chooses to bring Charles along slowly with some kind of snap count, it may not matter from a fantasy perspective.
Many fantasy minds much smarter than me are still extremely bullish on Spencer Ware but I'm not nearly as confident. Ware has lost a fumble in two straight games and in Week 3 versus the Jets he averaged just 3.8 yards per carry. Ware is a volatile play this week and should be a considered a high-risk, high-reward flex play.
- Bottom line: Both Charles and Ware should be considered flex plays this week. If you have Ware definitely don't drop him.
NEWS: Eric Decker has a partially torn rotator cuff, has been ruled out this week and surgery is a possibility.
- Fantasy spin: Depending on how severe the cuff injury is, it's feasible Decker could attempt to treat the injury with rehab and attempt to play through the pain, though he would see a significant decrease in shoulder strength. If he needs surgery, Decker would miss up to a month at a minimum.
- Bottom line:Quincy Enunwa is the obvious beneficiary this week with Decker out, though the Jets have a tough matchup versus the Seahawks. Enunwa has been playing well and it's clear Ryan Fitzpatrick has confidence in him. If he's available on the wire add him immediately.
NEWS: Russell Wilson says he is doing well and plans on playing Sunday. Per the quarterback, "I feel great, feel strong" who went on to say there was "no doubt" that he would play Sunday.
Fantasy spin: Wilson has been dealing with a litany of injuries to both legs. First a sprain of the high-ankle variety on one leg and then a knee injury on his opposite leg. He's banged up to say the least and his mobility looked poor to very poor in Week 3.
The proposition of Wilson as a static quarterback with an offensive line that has yet to gel going against the ferocious defensive line of the Jets is terrifying if you are depending on the Seattle signal caller.
Doug Baldwin will still see a large share of targets if Wilson plays meaning Baldwin should be played based off of volume alone. The same thought process should be applied to Christine Michael. Play Michael because really, with so many running backs down and out, you kind of have to.
- Bottom line: Hopefully you added quarterback depth the last couple weeks if you are a Wilson manager and if you did, benching the Seattle star is a difficult but correct move to make.
Other news and notes:Julius Thomas is dealing with an elbow injury and will be a game-time decision.
Alshon Jeffery was limited in practice this week with a knee injury but is expected to play.
Willie Snead continues to be hampered by a toe injury but said he is confident he will play Sunday versus the Chargers.
Delanie Walker is still dealing with a hamstring injury with availability possibly being revealed sometime Saturday.
Antonio Gates continues to get treatment for his hamstring and is looking extremely unlikely to play.
Kenneth Dixon is expected to return in Week 5.
Mohamed Sanu missed practice time this week with a shoulder injury but is expected to play.
