The indefinite suspension that Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook received after being charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly punching a woman is now a little less indefinite.
FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said Tuesday morning that Cook would not be allowed to practice or work out with the team until there is a legal resolution to the case, per Joe Schad of ESPN. Cook's case has been assigned an arraignment date of Sept. 2. A plea agreement might not be in the offing. Cook's attorney, Ricky Patel, has said his client did not strike the woman, and indicated to the Orlando Sentinel that a compromise with prosecutors would not be forthcoming.
"It's just not right here," Patel said earlier this month. "It must be dropped or he must be found not guilty. If necessary, we will file civil charges after these false allegations."
FSU's season opener will be held three days after Cook's arraignment: Sept. 5 against Texas State.
Cook rushed for 1,008 yards on 170 carries as a freshman last season and is in line to be a centerpiece of the Seminoles' offense.
