Leonard Fournette's weight became a hot topic at the NFL Scouting Combine when he checked in at a heavier than expected 240 pounds.
It was even more of a red flag when he recorded a highly disappointing 28.5-inch vertical leap, but he put concerns about whether his bulk had diminished his speed to rest when he ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, which tied for the 10th-fastest time among RBs and was highly impressive for a player of his size.
However, it still added some intrigue to his pro-day weigh-in on Wednesday at LSU, and the results will lead to some raised eyebrows again. Fournette dropped 12 pounds in the past month, as he weighed in at 228 pounds on Wednesday at LSU's pro day. Fournette was listed at 235 pounds by LSU last season, and said at the combine that he wanted to weigh in at 235, citing the extra heft as "water weight".
"I can play at 228. I played at 231 to 228 my sophomore season. That's what I feel like I'm the best at," Fournette told NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock on Wednesday. "Anything to help myself, help whatever team I go to, I'm willing to do it."
The fluctuation in his weight won't change the fact that he's considered one of the top talents in the 2017 NFL Draft. Indeed, Fournette, who didn't retest and did field drills only on Wedneday, is the No. 1 RB in Mayock's positional top-five rankings.
