John Foxhad already backed off a comment he made to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington this week about quarterback Tim Tebow's inability to run a pro-style offense.
Now the Denver Broncos' coach is feeling full-on regret.
"I screwed up," Fox said Friday, according to The Denver Post. "What bothers me about that is I love Tim Tebow. How can you not? I'm his biggest fan."
Fox's apologetic sentiments came one day after Tebow directed a 95-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown drive to lead the Broncos to a dramatic 17-13 win over the New York Jets on Thursday night. It was Denver's third straight win.
Earlier this week, Fox allowed Darlington into the film room to interview him for a story on NFL.com, which is when he said this about Tebow: "If we were trying to run a regular offense, he'd be screwed."
Naturally, that caused a firestorm that Fox wishes he hadn't created.
"I don't ever lose sleep over things like this, but I felt terrible about it," Fox said. "We were 1-4, and now we're 5-5. Believe me, I'm Tim Tebow's biggest fan."
