Manziel pro-day coverage: Tune into NFL Network for live coverage of Johnny Manziel's pro day at Texas A&M on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. ET.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- You just knew the pro-day workout of Johnny Manziel would somehow, some way, trump all others in terms of the crowd it would draw.
Apparently, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former President George H.W. Bush will be on hand to add a political flavor to the vast NFL crowd drawn to college football's biggest star the last two years. Fort Worth Star-Telegram NFL writer Charean Williams tweeted as much Wednesday. The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum on the Texas A&M campus are named for the former president, who served as the nation's 41st chief executive. The presence of a former president, of course, presumably means added security at Manziel's pro day and a secret service detail, as well.
All to see a guy throw a football in shorts -- to uncovered wide receivers.
Only in America.
The former Texas A&M star works out for NFL coaches and scouts Thursday morning at TAMU's indoor athletic facility, ready to make all the throws he declined to make at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. As a projected first-round draft pick, his workout will be closely watched by a number of NFL clubs in search of a new quarterback, most notably the Houston Texans, who have the No. 1 overall pick and will be represented, at a minimum, by new head coach Bill O'Brien, general manager Rick Smith and quarterbacks coach George Godsey. O'Brien will meet privately with Manziel on Thursday.
