The Giants have made contact with troubled defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
Team owner and president John Mara said as much Monday morning on WFAN 660, marking the first time that any of the team executives were able to reach him.
Pierre-Paul sustained a broken thumb as well as extensive damage to his right index finger, which resulted in an amputation. Pierre-Paul was lighting off fireworks in his native Florida during a Fourth of July celebration with friends and family.
Mara went on to add that Ronnie Barnes, the team's vice president of medical services, was also able to make contact. Barnes was one of the members of the organization that flew down to Florida to meet with Pierre-Paul personally, but was turned away.
While this doesn't mean much, it does mean that the organization has some peace of mind. Pierre-Paul is without question the team's best defensive player but has yet to sign his franchise tag. If the Giants hope to finally return to the playoffs, Pierre-Paul will need to be a part of the plan.
Now that there's been a conversation, maybe we will see him back in New Jersey soon as well.
