The Giants have seen enough of Preston Parker.
The team on Tuesday released the slot receiver after he dropped five passes over New York's first two games as a fill-in for Victor Cruz. To fill his spot on the 53-man roster, Big Blue announced the re-signing of veteran defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis, aiding a position riddled with injuries.
Parker's exodus is an indication that New York expects to have Cruz back on the field sooner than later, although the veteran pass-catcher didn't practice Tuesday as he continues to battle a hamstring injury. Look for special-teams ace Dwayne Harris to eat up snaps out of the slot on Thursday night against the Washington Redskins.
Parker, 28, is a candidate to find work elsewhere, but teams aren't lining up to sign a wideout with just 85 catches over five seasons -- and one who couldn't hang on to the ball in The Big Apple.
As for the 6-foot-4, 346-pound Ellis, he spent the past four seasons with the Jets, chalking up 53 tackles and one sack over 47 appearances. It's a depth move for New York with Markus Kuhn battling a knee injury and Cullen Jenkins dealing with a hamstring issue.
The winless Giants are under plenty of pressure to take care of business against the 'Skins at home on Thursday. Fall to 0-3, and the city's frisky tabloids will continue to have their fun with this floating member of the NFC East.
