Two days after the Carolina Panthers gave up two long kick returns to Devin Hester in a 34-29 loss to the Chicago Bears, the team released veteran safety and special teams player Sean Considine.
Considine, 28, was a free agent acquisition by the Panthers in July. He did not have a special-teams tackle in four games, and lost his footing during Hester's 73-yard kickoff return.
"In this league you get what you deserve," Considine told the Charlotte Observer on Tuesday.
"If I had five tackles right now on special teams, they wouldn't be cutting me," Considine said. "I felt like I blocked well and was disruptive, but it wasn't good enough. I would have loved to have been a solution for the special-teams problems. But obviously I wasn't. That's why I got cut."
Carolina also claimed safety Jermale Hines off waivers from Indianapolis. Hines was a fifth-round pick this year by St. Louis but was waived by the Rams.
