Indiana lost for the third time this season Saturday, falling 45-29 to Iowa, but Hoosiers junior tailback Tevin Coleman had another huge game.
Coleman ran for 219 yards and three TDs on just 15 carries -- that's 14.6 yards per attempt -- to surpass the 1,000-yard mark this season. Coleman has 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Hoosiers (3-3). Iowa came in having surrendered just 466 rushing yards total this season (93.2 yards per game); the Hawkeyes also had allowed just two rushing touchdowns.
Coleman scored on runs of 83, 45 and 69 yards; he now has eight rushes of at least 40 yards, four of at least 60 yards and three of at least 70 yards this season. Coleman is averaging 8.8 yards per carry, a staggering number for a guy with 120 attempts.
NFL scouts have taken notice of Coleman, who entered the game second in the nation in rushing average (168.2 per game); he should be the leader in that category by the end of Saturday's action. He has had eight consecutive 100-yard games dating to last season, the longest such streak in the nation; he also has had 15 consecutive games with a rushing TD, which also is the longest such streak in the nation.
Saturday's outing was his second 200-yard game of the season; he ran for 247 against FCS foe Indiana State in the season opener. Saturday's performance also was his fourth game with at least 150 yards this season.
Indiana plays host to Michigan State next Saturday. That's the toughest remaining defense for Coleman and IU this season.
