Injuries: Peyton Manning could resume on-field work

Giants quarterback Eli Manning would not say why or what he received X-rays on after Sunday's loss to the Jets, but he did want everyone to know that he was fine and would not miss a start. Manning never does.

On Monday, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin provided some context to the situation, noting that Manning received X-rays on his ankle. Manning finished the game without issue and did not appear to be walking with a significant limp following the game.

Manning attempted a rare, out-of-pocket scramble late in Sunday's game, which raised some alarms given the hard hit he took. But as the Giants' iron man, Manning almost always makes it to practice the next day. It sounds like this will remain the case as the Giants try and sort themselves out.

The bad news for Manning is that rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers (high ankle) is still on crutches, according to Coughlin. Flowers left Sunday's game against the Jets in obvious pain and was initially questionable to return. Shortly after, the team ruled him out for the game. As is tradition, Manning is now dealing with some unrecognizable version of his offensive line which can hopefully keep him out of the X-ray room in the future. At the beginning of the season, Flowers was supposed to play opposite Will Beatty, who is out for the year with a torn pectoral. Guard Geoff Schwartz is also done for the season.

1. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning could resume on-field work on Wednesday, according to coach Gary Kubiak. Brock Osweiler will remain the team's starter this weekend against the Raiders.

2. Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbecksuffered a mild rib separation and sore/stiff back during Sunday night's loss to the Steelers. Hasselbeck should be able to practice Wednesday, coach Chuck Pagano said Monday, who added he expects Hasselbeck to be good to go this weekend. The 40-year-old Hasselbeck has led the Colts to a 4-1 record in relief of Andrew Luck as Indy chases the AFC South title.

3. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is having knee surgery Tuesday, according to the team. He's in Alabama with Dr. James Andrews for a pre-checkup.

4. The Browns got some positive news. Breakout wideout Travis Benjamin, who injured his shoulder in Sunday's drubbing at the hands of the Bengals, is only day to day. Benjamin left the game early in the first half and didn't return, but he is unlikely to miss any time. Offensive lineman Joel Bitonio's ankle injury has sidelined him for the remainder of the season; he was placed on season-ending injured reserve Monday afternoon.

5. Jaguars wideout Allen Hurns can return to the lineup Sunday against the Colts after he cleared the league's concussion protocol. He suffered a brutal hit in the fourth quarter of their game against the Chargers and was held out last weekend against the Titans. The Jaguars also announced they have placed running back Bernard Pierce (calf) on season-ending injured reserve.

6. Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis -- who is on injured reserve -- is having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of Lewis' plans.

7. Bears tight end Martellus Bennett remains day to day, according to coach John Fox. Bennett played in Chicago's loss to the 49ers with a rib injury but was quiet, with 3 catches for 14 yards.

8. Redskins defensive end Jason Hatcher left Monday's loss to the Cowboys to be evaluated for a possible concussion and did not return.
