Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio incurred his second injury of the season on Saturday and is out indefinitely, while Tennessee safety Evan Berry will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Del Rio, the son of Oakland Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, injured his shoulder in a 31-10 loss to Arkansas on Saturday, and UF coach Jim McElwain wouldn't speculate beyond his upcoming game against South Carolina regarding his return.
"He'll be out for awhile," McElwain said, per the Orlando Sentinel. "It's bad, man. When you can't lift your duffle bag up, chances are something's hurt."
Purdue transfer Austin Appleby made two starts earlier this season after Del Rio injured his knee in a game against North Texas.
As for Berry, Tennessee coach Butch Jones confirmed he won't play again this season after suffering an injury against Tennessee Tech on Saturday. Berry, one of the top kickoff returners in college football, is the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry.
"He's going to be missed," Jones said, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, "not only for the return aspect. He's been playing very well on the back end of our defense."
Here's a look at other injury news from Monday that involves top college players:
» As long as the practice week doesn't result in any setbacks, Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine is expected to play in the Sooners' Week 11 game against Baylor, OU coach Bob Stoops said on Monday. Perine, a junior who could apply for early eligibility in the 2017 NFL Draft, has missed the last three games with a muscle pull. Perine hasn't played a full game since a spectacular Oct. 8 performance against Texas that included season highs of 35 carries and 214 yards.
» The injury news for Florida doesn't nearly end with Del Rio. LB Alex Anzalone will miss the remainder of the season with a broken arm, and C Cam Dillard will miss the South Carolina game, while LB Jarrad Davis will probably miss the game, McElwain said. Anzalone's play has caught the eye of an NFL executive, while Davis, a senior, is considered one of the top linebackers in the nation.
» Nebraska QB Tommy Armstrong is going through the concussion protocol after a frightening injury against Ohio State in which he was knocked unconscious. The game was delayed while medical personnel stabilized his head before carting him off the field. Fortunately, after a trip to the hospital, Armstrong returned to the sideline before the end of the game. Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley said Armstrong's playing status for this week's game against Minnesota is uncertain.
» Washington lost its top pass rusher, Joe Mathis, for the rest of the regular season, due to a foot injury that will require surgery. However, there is an outside chance Mathis could return to action in time to play in a bowl game, per the Seattle Times. Mathis recorded five sacks in six games prior to his injury, but hasn't played in the Huskies' last three games.
» Florida State senior WR Jesus "Bobo" Wilson will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing foot surgery Monday, per the Orlando Sentinel. Wilson caught 30 passes for 390 yards prior to suffering the injury Oct. 15 in a win over Wake Forest.
» Middle Tennessee QB Brent Stockstill will miss the remainder of the season after breaking his collarbone, per the Daily News Journal. The son of former FSU QB Rick Stockstill, who is the Blue Raiders' coach, was named one of College Football 24/7's most accurate passers before the season.
