Darren Sproles' knee injury will cost him weeks, not the whole season.
Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Monday that Sproles has a sprained MCL. NFL Media's Albert Breer reported that the running back is expected to miss one week of action, according to a team source.
Sproles injured the knee during a rushing attempt in the third quarter of Sunday night's 27-0 win over the New York Giants. Sproles immediately winced and grabbed at the knee as hit the turf before walking with a trainer to the locker room.
The Eagles' schedule will work in Sproles' favor here. Philadelphia has entered their bye week, meaning it doesn't play its next game until Oct. 26 against the Arizona Cardinals. There is a chance Sproles will miss just one game.
Sproles has provided a major lift to the Eagles this season. The 10th-year running back is averaging 6.6 yards per carry and 12.4 yards per reception. He also has an 82-yard punt return for a score. Sproles' impact has been especially important as LeSean McCoy struggled to get going in the season's first five weeks.
