Rodgers-Cromartie suffers shoulder injury

Aug. 20:Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is questionable to return after suffering a shoulder injury, the Eagles announced. Rodgers-Cromartie was forced out of Monday night's game against the New England Patriots shortly after teammate Michael Vick exited with a rib injury. It was not clear how Rodgers-Cromartie was injured.

Chung leaves with shoulder injury

Aug. 20: Chung was forced to leave Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a shoulder injury. He appeared to injure himself while attempting to tackle LeSean McCoy in the first quarter. The team announced his return as questionable.

Vick leaves game, X-rays on ribs negative

Aug. 20: The Eagles confirmed that X-rays on Vick's ribs came back negative. Vick was knocked from Monday night's game against the New England Patriots at 6:09 of the first quarter after taking a hit to his ribs from Jermaine Cunningham. He was attended to by trainers, then walked off under his own power before eventually heading to the locker room to get X-rays on his ribs. Vick also left the Eagles' first preseason game, suffering a thumb injury on his throwing hand.

Rudolph cleared to return from concussion

Aug. 20: Rudolph passed his post-concussion tests and returned to practice Monday, The Associated Press reports. The Minnesota Vikings tight end was injured in last week's 36-14 preseason win over the Buffalo Bills.

Bryant's MRI reveals no major damage

Aug. 20: An MRI of Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant's right knee Monday revealed the wideout was suffering from patellar tendinitis. Bryant injured himself during practice Monday when he slipped coming out of his break during a drill. He limped off the field and into the locker room, according to the team's official website.

Jacobs could return by season opener

Aug. 20: Brandon Jacobs left the 49ers' facility on crutches Monday, but told reporters as he passed by that he was "doing all right. I can't complain." Coach Jim Harbaugh said "it's possible" Jacobs plays in the season opener. An MRI of the running back's left knee suffered on Saturday against the Houston Texans showed "no major damage," a source with knowledge of his condition told NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury occurred on Jacobs' first carry of the game, an 8-yard gain, when he was hit by defender Kareem Jackson.

Blount back at practice, feels good

Aug. 20:Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount returned to practice Monday after injuring his groin during Friday's preseason matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Blount, who said immediately after Friday's game that he didn't think the injury was serious, told the Tampa Tribune on Monday that he feels good after returning to the practice field.

Sylvester tears medial collateral ligament in knee

Aug. 19: The Steelers' already-thin linebacking corps took another hit Sunday as Stevenson Sylvester learned he tore his medial collateral ligament in his knee, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The backup inside linebacker is expected to miss three to four weeks. James Harrison and Jason Worilds have also been sidelined for the Steelers.

Hardin released from hospital after neck injury

Aug. 19: The Bears backup safety was released from an area hospital Sunday after all tests came back clear on his injured neck, according to the Chicago Tribune. Hardin was taken from the field on a cart in the third quarter of Saturday night's game against the Washington Redskins. He was attempting to tackle Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen when he fell to the turf.

Lewis out with a right shoulder injury

Aug. 19:Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Lewis will miss "a bit of time" with a right shoulder injury. The starting safety was hurt in the Chiefs' 31-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night.

McRath to have season-ending surgery

Aug. 19: McRath is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn patella tendon in his left knee. The three-year veteran tried to play through the injury during training camp, but coach Mike Munchak said Sunday that McRath had decided to have the surgery.

Collie being evaluated for concussion

Aug. 19:Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie left the team's 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night to be evaluated for concussion symptoms. Before exiting the game, Collie caught a 19-yard pass from Andrew Luck, but the play was challenged by the Steelers and the pass was ruled incomplete.

Brown could return for second half of season

Aug. 19:Vincent Brown's broken ankle is expected to sideline the San Diego Chargers' wide receiver for quite some time, but according to Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego the expectation is that Brown will be available for the second half of the regular season. Brown was carted off the field after catching an 18-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Whitehurst during Saturday's 28-20 preseason win against the Dallas Cowboys.

Richardson's recovery might be ahead of schedule

Aug. 19:Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur said first-round draft pick Trent Richardson's arthroscopic knee surgery might be ahead of schedule," according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. Richardson had his knee scoped by Dr. James Andrews in early August and was expected to be ready for the Brownsregular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Vollmer to be activated off PUP list, report says

Aug. 19:New England Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer will reportedly be taken off the team's physically unable to perform list, according to the Boston Herald. Vollmer hasn't participated in any of the Patriots' offseason workouts and training camp.

MRI on Meriweather's knee shows no damage

Aug. 19: The Washington Post reported Sunday that Meriweather's MRI on his left knee showed no significant damage. It's not yet known how long he will be sidelined. Meriweather was knocked from Saturday's preseason game against the Chicago Bearswith the injury. The safety was hurt on Michael Bush's 8-yard touchdown run. He was taken to the locker room, ending his night.

Kirkpatrick cleared to practice

Aug. 19: Kirkpatrick has been cleared to return from a fractured bone in his knee and was practicing with the team Sunday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bengals cornerback was originally hurt while preparing for training camp, but looked close to ready during a "vigorous workout" before the team's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to a report on the Bengals' official website. Kirkpatrick was expected to be out for six weeks and likely miss the start of the regular season.

Orakpo's MRI shows 'nothing serious'

Aug. 19: The Washington Redskinsreceived some good news when an MRI on Orakpo's shoulder area showed "nothing serious at all," his agent said Sunday. Orakpo left Saturday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears in the first quarter with what the team deemed a shoulder injury. Orakpo was injured while attempting to make an arm tackle on the Bears' Devin Hester. He was listed as questionable to return before being ruled out.

Bradshaw's injury a hand contusion

Aug. 19:New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin said running back Ahmad Bradshaw suffered a hand contusion in the team's victory over the New York Jets on Saturday. Bradshaw was injured in the first quarter on a 4-yard run that resulted in a first down. Bradshaw said after the game that he has had a cyst on his hand "for a while." Coughlin confirmed the backs injury in a conference call Sunday.

Hosley has turf toe, Coughlin says

Aug. 19:Jayron Hosley left the the New York Giants' 26-3 win against the New York Jets with a turf toe injury after returing an interception 77-yards for a touchdown. Coughlin said Hosley was still undergoing tests.

Jennings returns to practice

Aug. 19:Greg Jennings hit the practice field in pads Sunday for the first time for the Green Bay Packers since Aug. 3 when he suffered a concussion during the team's "Family Night" scrimmage. Coach Mike McCarthyhinted Friday that the wide receiver was progressing through the protocol for returning from a head injury and could be ready for Sunday's practice.

Stewart's agent says running back is 'fine'

Aug. 19: Running back Jonathan Stewart is "fine," his agent told Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. Stewart exited the Carolina Panthers 23-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Friday with a left calf injury. Stewart was attempting to avoid a tackle from Dolphins linebacker Jason Trusnik when he planted his foot awkwardly while trying to return to his feet. The running back limped to the sideline after the play.

Brown could be out for eight weeks after breaking ankle

Aug. 18:Philip Rivers tossed two interceptions in the San Diego Chargers' 28-20 win against the Dallas Cowboys, and now the quarterback might be without one of his top targets for some time. Brown broke his ankle in the third quarter of Saturday's game and is expected to miss at least eight weeks, according to U-T San Diego. The wide receiver is expected to undergo surgery on Sunday.

James injured but vows to make speedy recovery

Aug. 18: The San Francisco 49ers had a crowded backfield, but the group took a couple of hits in Saturday's 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans as both James and Brandon Jacobs left the game with injuries. The rookie from Oregon was carted off in the fourth quarter with a left ankle injury. James tweeted that he expects to be 100 percent healthy by Monday's practice.

Caldwell leaves game after taking hit to chest

Aug. 18: Caldwell left the Denver Broncos' 30-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday after taking a hit in the chest in the fourth quarter. The wide receiver was trying to catch a pass over the middle from quarterback Brock Osweiler when he was met by Seahawks safety Chris Maragos. Caldwell stayed on the ground for several minutes while trainers attended to him.

Ford could miss season opener with foot injury

Aug. 18: Ford is in danger of missing the season opener because of a left foot injury. The third-year pro underwent an MRI on Saturday and is awaiting the results. Ford pulled up with the injury in the first quarter of the Oakland Raiders' second preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. The wide receiver was spotted with crutches after the game.

Podlesh injured trying to tackle Banks

Aug. 18: Podlesh suffered a hip pointer injury while trying to chase down Brandon Banks on the receiver's 91-yard punt return for a touchdown during the Chicago Bears' 33-31 win against the Washington Redskins on Saturday. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday. Podlesh's injury could give rookie punter Ryan Quigley an opportunity.

Conte's shoulder injury leaves Bears in a lurch

Aug. 18: Conte's availability for the Bears' next preseason game is up in the air after the safety suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter of Saturday's 33-31 win against the Washington Redskins. Coach Lovie Smith said he did not think the injury was serious, according to the Chicago Tribune. Backup safety Brandon Hardin also left Saturday's game with a neck injury.

Chamberlain tweets that 2012 season is over

Aug. 18:New Orleans Saints linebacker Chris Chamberlain tweeted Saturday that his 2012 season is over because of an ACL injury. Chamberlain appeared to suffer the injury during a running play in the second quarter of Friday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chamberlain was helped off the field by trainers and examined on the sideline before being taken to the locker room on a cart.

Brown has torn right triceps, season in jeopardy

Aug. 18:Arizona Cardinals left tackle Levi Brown exited Friday night's game against the Oakland Raiders in the second quarter with a torn right triceps that will require surgery, a source close to the player confirmed to NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Brown isn't in pain, but cannot complete a pushup and, with a four-month recovery time, is likely headed to injured reserve, according to the source.

Leinart leaves game after late hit

Aug. 17:Oakland Raiders backup quarterback Matt Leinart left Friday's matchup against one of his former teams after taking a late hit from Ricky Lumpkin, injuring his index finger on his right (non-throwing) hand. The San Fancisco Chronicle reported that Leinart received two stitches on the finger.

Aug. 17:Travis Lewis left the Detriot Lions preseason contest against the Baltimore Ravenswith a quad injury Friday.

Logan injures ankle against Ravens

Aug. 17:Detroit Lions running back Stefan Logan injured his ankle in the team's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Friday. Logan was on the ground for a while before he eventually left the field under his own power. The wide receiver/kick returner was seen walking with crutches and a boot on his ankle. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said that X-rays were negative.

Stewart exits game with left calf injury

Aug. 17:Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart left the team's preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Friday after suffereing a left calf injury, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. Stewart walked under his own power to the Panthers' locker room with a slight limp.

No decision on Bishop for season

Aug. 17: Coach Mike McCarthy said Desmond Bishop had surgery on his torn hamstring Friday. Bishop sustained the injury in the Packers' first preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. McCarthy had previously said Bishop's season was in jeopardy because of the injury.

Hampton taken off PUP

Aug. 17: The Pittsburgh Steelers took Casey Hampton off the physically unable to perform list Friday. Hampton was recovering from an offseaon anterior cruciate ligament surgery. Hampton said previously he expected to be ready by the season opener.

Mendenhall taken off PUP

Aug. 17: The Pittsburgh Steelers took Rashard Mendenhalloff the physically unable to perform list Friday. Mendenhall had a torn anterior cruciate ligament and was expected to miss the first six weeks of the season. Although it is not clear whether he will play Week 1, the move suggests the Steelers think Mendenhall will be ready by the end of September.

McBean reportedly out for year

Aug. 17:Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Ryan McBean underwent surgery this week to repair a broken ankle, according to the Ravens official site. McBean broke his ankle in the preseason opener versus the Atlanta Falcons and said his foot was "facing the direction to where it wasn't supposed to be facing."

Ridley injured knee

Aug. 17:New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley left the field during Thursday's practice with a knee injury. Although it doesn't seem to be serious, this is yet another hit to the Patriots already banged up backfield. Shane Vereen could be a viable option to take Ridley's place.

Urlacher undergoes knee procedure

Aug. 16: Urlacher's return from his knee injury has not gone as planned this month. The Bears announced Tuesday that the All-Pro linebacker underwent an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his left knee. NFL Network and NFL.com's Albert Breer, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reported on Thursday that Urlacher first had surgery on that knee in January. CSNChicago.com reported Thursday that Urlacher then had another operation on the knee in the springtime.

Aug. 16: Burfict left the game with 9:38 left in the second quarter after an apparent hit to the head. He did not return.

Gresham hurts knee in Thursday's game

Aug. 16: Gresham appeared to hyperextend his right knee at the end of a 25-yard catch-and-run midway through the first quarter of Thursday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. Gresham seemed to be walking fine on the sideline, but the Bengalsquickly announced he would not return to the game.

Austin's back keeps Giants thin at defensive tackle

Aug. 16:Marvin Austin, a second-year pro, will not play in the New York Giants' preseason matchup against the New York Jets on Saturday, according to the Associated Press. Coach Tom Coughlin did not explain what particular injury was keeping the defensive tackle from playing, but said Austin was dealing with "issues." The Giants lost defensive tackle Shaun Rogers for the season to a blog clot in his leg earlier this week. Austin did not know how long he would be out.

Beatty 'back on shelf' with back injury

Aug. 16: The New York Giants' projected starter at left tackle, Will Beatty, missed the team's first practice at home Thursday after finishing up training camp, according to the Associated Press. Coach Tom Coughlin said he had no idea how long Beatty would be out. Beatty injured his back in the spring and missed the Giants' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

White has knee swelling

Aug. 16:Jordan White, a rookie wide receiver from Western Michigan, has swelling in his knee, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is not sure whether White will play Saturday against the Giants. The Jets selected White in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
