It turned out quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who was expected to start Sunday's game in Seattle against the Cincinnati Bengals, was a late scratch for the Seahawks.
Jackson is active and expected to be available for the Seahawks, according to the team, but it was Charlie Whitehurst who took the field on the team's first offensive possession. The Seahawks had announced about an hour before the game that Jackson would make the start.
Jackson was listed as questionable after missing last week's game against the Cleveland Browns with a strained pectoral muscle. He returned to practice on a limited basis early in the week and was able to take part in a full practice on Friday.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll hadn't divulged during the week whether or not Jackson would start over Whitehurst, who got the call in last week's loss.
The Seahawks also deactivated wide receiver Mike Williams.
Linebacker Rey Maualuga (ankle) and tight end Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) were among the players deactivated for the Bengals. Gresham, one of the team's top receiving threats, is considered a surprise scratch after he was listed as probable for the game.
