South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is fast. He runs fast, drives fast and should come off the 2014 NFL Draft board fast. His sense of humor runs out fast, too, as a South Carolina sandwich shop owner found out after making a joke referencing Clowney being stopped for speeding in December.
"Hurry in for our Jadeveon Clowney sub, it goes really fast," is what proprietor Charlie Ruffalo put on the marquee outside his restaurant. That sign drew the ire of Clowney's agent, Bus Cook, who threatened legal action, WRHI AM 1340 reported.
Clowney was cited twice last month for driving over the speed limit, driving 84 mph in a 55-mph zone in one instance and 110 mph in a 70-mph zone in the other.
Ruffalo said he is not featuring Clowney's name or likeness for commercial purposes. Ironically, Cook's outrage is having the very effect he presumably was trying to prevent: bringing Clowney's driving record back into the spotlight and giving Ruffalo free publicity.
Maybe Cook would have been better served taking the opposite tact as his client and slowing down.
