The New Orleans Saints have their high-priced free agent acquisition on the field.
The team tweeted out a Vine of Jairus Byrd at Tuesday morning's walkthrough, meaning the safety is off the physically unable to perform list.
Byrd underwent back surgery in May, not long after signing a lucrative six-year, $56 million contract with the Saints.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Byrd had surgery in LA by Dr. Robert Watkins to create space in his spinal cord and alleviate possible bruising that can come with contact. Byrd's last visit was in July when he received his pre-training camp update. The safety is ahead of schedule with his rehab from the surgery, which was elective and precautionary. He'll take his time getting back as he does more football activity, but the Saints like where he is currently.
Byrd will play a key role alongside Kenny Vaccaro in Rob Ryan's defense, making up the best safety duo outside of Seattle. If Byrd can stay healthy he could be a linchpin for a SaintsSuper Bowl run.
