Jalen Ramsey intends to enter 2016 NFL Draft

Florida State's Jalen Ramsey will apply for early eligibility into the NFL draft, adding one of the nation's elite defensive backs to the 2016 NFL Draft field.

"Today, after having in depth discussions with my parents, my coaches and others whom I hold dear to my heart, I am announcing my decision to pursue my dream, forgo my senior year of football at Florida State and declare for the 2016 NFL Draft," Ramsey said in a school release.

Ramsey is a versatile defender, having gained experience at FSU at cornerback, safety and nickelback. The two-time All-American started 41 games in his career and broke up 23 passes with three interceptions. NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks was impressed with Ramsey's performace at the Peach Bowl against Houston last week, describing him as a Day 1 starter at cornerback in the NFL.

"I'm extremely happy for Jalen and his family," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "I think it is a very smart decision by him. He will be a tremendous pro. He was an outstanding player and leader for us."

Ramsey is a sure tackler in run support, is instinctive in coverage, and has the size and length NFL clubs look for in cornerbacks (6-1, 202 pounds). In 2013, he became the first true freshman to start at cornerback for the Seminoles since Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Ramsey also was a standout on the FSU track and field team, winning two ACC titles as a long jumper and one as a relay team sprinter.
